Water, air and earth
Our seas are choked with pollution, our land drying up and in many places, our air risks becoming unbreathable. If anywhere is in need of quantum-leap innovation, new applications of technology and brave new approaches, it is the natural environment systems that support our very life on this planet.

Circular supply, ethical sourcing and resources
Beginning with exploitation and ending at the dump; supply chains are in need of a paradigm shift. The future is circular, transparent and ethical, however, changing human behaviour, company processes and entire markets has proved much slower than needed. What can you bring to the table that will be a game changer for this fundamental element of long-term sustainable success?

Feeding the world or eating the earth?
Desertification, deforestation, topsoil degradation, increasing meat consumption... the limits of our earth are being stretched by our growing population and changing eating habits. Is urban, in-door and vertical farming the answer? How can we shift away from meat-intensive diets? Can technology save us? Unpack the complexities of feeding this world and use your ingenuity to stop this generation from eating our future.

Act local, dream big
With so much focus on global targets and big initiatives, the impact of individuals, local businesses and communities is too often forgotten. However, these groups have incredible power to make lasting changes to behaviours in society, business and politics. How can you combine local voices, technology and an innovative agenda to start pushing for change from the ground up?

How we live, how we move
Cities are growing, and transport systems are under pressure. Our built environment is rife for disruption, with the ways in which we live and move remaining largely unchanged since the 1900s. How can we re-imagine transport so that it is flexible, equitable and sustainable? What’s the place of cars given personal ownership is set to decline? Are their better ways to share community spaces, and can we make living more modular and flexible? Redesign your living world, sustainably and without limits.

Financing a better future
Financial incentives, economic policies and regulations are tools with the greatest power to drive us towards lasting sustainable outcomes. From the outside, it can be easy to accuse policy makers of being too cautious and light footed, however, a fine line must be walked between allowing businesses to plan strategy through consistent policy, and the radical measures we need to put breaks on our global CO2 levels. Take to the war room armed with taxes, incentives, green bonds, grants and government budgets in order to create your perfect mix. Let's build an economic environment that supports sustainable businesses and societies.

PART 1 – SUSTAINABILITY BOOTCAMP (16.06, 12:30 – 18:15)
Professionals from across industry will come together the day before the GREENTECH FESTIVAL conference to take part in the Sustainability Bootcamp. Focusing around a set of 6 categories, teams will identify current challenges that are holding back sustainability outcomes, and boil these down to a set of clearly defined “Challenge Statements”. At the end of the half-day Bootcamp, the professionals will hand-over their “Challenge Statements” to Competing teams (participating online) and be linked up with a team as mentors for the Change-a-thon Challenge.
PART 2 – CHANGE-A-THON CHALLENGE (16:15, 16.06 – 17:15, 17.06 – 25H)
As soon as the teams have been introduced to their mentors and chosen their “Challenge Statement”, each team will begin work on coming up with innovative solutions to these problems/challenges focusing on new applications of technology, innovative business models or new incentives, drivers or economic models. At intervals over the next 25 hours, the mentors will check in with their teams online, offering support, guidance and advice.
PART 3 – JUDGING AND PRIZE CEREMONY
At 15:15 on the 17th of June (23 hours after starting), the teams will lodge a two minute video explaining their innovating solution to an expert judging panel. The judges will choose 3 finalists who will then get to present their solution via live video in front of the entire GREENTECH FESTIVAL conference audience. The final prize-winning team will be chosen by live audience vote and the winning teams will receive on-going mentorship from our corporate partners to help turn their idea into reality.
INNOVATION PARTNERS
We have decided to partner with Sales Force, Helioz and Futury, who will be innovation partners donating significant time by offering mentorship to the top 3 finalists over a one year period and help them turn their vision into a reality.
Change-a-thon Challenge Student Organization Partners
We would love to thank the following organizations for supporting us source student teams amongst their strong global networks.
TIME INVESTMENT
For the Bootcamp participants and mentors, the time investment will be the afternoon of the 16th of June from 12:30 to 6:30pm and two 30 minutes to 1 hour mentoring sessions with your chosen start-up or student challenger teams on the 17th.
