The story so far
Six chapters, from an award in 2008 to a network in 2026.
2008
The awards before the festival
Marco Voigt and Sven Krüger founded the Clean Tech Media Award in Berlin in 2008. It was renamed the GreenTec Awards in 2013, and has been the GREEN AWARDS since 2019: jury-judged recognition for real achievements, in one unbroken line. It is the oldest asset in the house, and it predates the festival by a decade. In 2018 its Entrepreneur of the Year was a certain retired Formula 1 champion.
2018–2019
Conceived by a world champion
In October 2018, Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg, Marco Voigt and Sven Krüger conceived a new kind of green technology event. The first GREENTECH FESTIVAL opened in Berlin in 2019.
2019–2025
Seven Berlin editions
At its peak in 2024, the festival drew 14,000 visitors, 200 exhibitors and 350 speakers, with 237 million media reach. Partners included Audi, Google, Siemens, BASF, Porsche, E.ON, Salesforce, Allianz, Deutsche Bahn, Lufthansa, Telekom, DHL, Huawei, BCG and WWF.
2021–2024
GTF Connect goes global
The curated regional series launched in London in 2021 and proved itself worldwide: New York and Singapore in 2022, Los Angeles at 750, London at 700, and a sold-out Singapore edition of more than 1,000 attendees in 2024. Small, senior and regional: the audience was 28% C-level.
2025
Relevance beats reach
In July 2025 the founders discontinued the mass-market festival format: "Relevanz schlägt Reichweite", relevance beats reach. The farewell page read, simply: "We were loud when others were still quiet." We agree with the verdict. What returns is not a 14,000-person hall; it is the network, the awards, and the curated format that sold out Singapore.
2026 onward
The network era
Under new ownership within the Green Tech Festival Network, GREENTECH FESTIVAL becomes an always-on professional community for green technology across growth markets, with the GREEN AWARDS as its annual moment and GTF Connect as its heartbeat.
