Pakistan's planning body has approved the revised Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme and sent it to ECNEC for final approval. Its cost has risen almost elevenfold since 2007, and completion is now targeted for June 2027.
Pakistan’s Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved the revised Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme, known as K-IV, at a cost of about Rs172 billion and referred it to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval. The first phase will deliver 260 million gallons a day (MGD) to Karachi, against the 650 MGD originally planned. The water and power authority WAPDA, which is executing the scheme, is now working to a completion date of June 2027.
