Punjab plans 1,500 more electric buses for 91 tehsils from January 2027
Pakistan's most populous province is taking its electric bus programme beyond the big cities, with a target of 3,000 e-buses by June 2027 and 5,000 within five years. A further 488 buses are due from China this month.
The government of Punjab, Pakistan’s most populous province, will deploy 1,500 electric buses across 91 tehsils (sub-districts) from January 2027. The programme, approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is meant to take electric public transport well beyond Lahore and the other big cities. It forms part of a plan for 5,000 e-buses over five years, with an interim target of 3,000 operating by June 2027.
