Thailand gives data centres their own power tariff and opens direct clean-power deals to all industries

Thailand's energy policy council has created a separate electricity rate for data centres, expected at 5–6 baht per kWh. It has also removed the 2,000 MW cap on direct renewable power purchase agreements, and a screening framework for new data-centre grid connections is due in the fourth quarter.

Thailand’s National Energy Policy Council (NEPC) has created a dedicated electricity tariff for data centres, priced to reflect the real cost of supplying them and of expanding the grid for them. At the same meeting it opened direct power purchase agreements (Direct PPAs) for renewable electricity to every industry, removing a pilot cap of 2,000 MW. Data centres are expected to pay about 5–6 baht (US$0.15–0.18) per kWh. The Energy Regulatory Commission is preparing a screening framework for new data-centre connections, expected in the fourth quarter.
